General FAQ

Why should we use Memory Stream?

We'll be candid: we've experienced the passing of loved ones, and we've also known the heartbreak of not being able to share those moments with family and friends who couldn't attend in person.

With over a decade of professional live event and broadcast experience, we saw an opportunity to use our skills to help families during a difficult time. When we looked at what was available for memorial livestreaming, we felt we could offer something different — bringing commercial-grade broadcast equipment, professional production methods, and a calm, respectful presence to every service.

Memory Stream began in our own Brisbane community, and we remain committed to delivering a service that is discreet, reliable, and worthy of the occasion.

What exactly is livestreaming?

Livestreaming is the process of sending live video over the internet. It allows a service or memorial taking place in one location to be viewed anywhere in the world on an internet-enabled device such as a phone, computer, tablet, or smart TV.

What package do we really need?

We believe in recommending what suits your family, not simply the most comprehensive or expensive option.

If you primarily want remote family and friends to watch the service as it happens, our Essential Farewell package is usually perfect.

If you would like the service captured in greater detail, with additional coverage that becomes more of a lasting memorial video - our Legacy Tribute package may be more suitable. Many families choose this option to preserve moments that may not feel significant on the day, but become deeply meaningful in the months and years that follow.

We are always happy to guide you through the options.

Do we need to book you in ourselves?

Not necessarily.

In most cases, your Funeral Director will engage us directly on your behalf. If you're feeling overwhelmed or would prefer your Funeral Director to coordinate the arrangements, simply let them know you would like Memory Stream involved and we will take care of the rest.

Of course, you are always welcome to contact us directly if you prefer. We are here to make the process as simple and stress-free as possible.

Will your presence be intrusive?

No. Discretion is one of our highest priorities.

We typically set up at the rear of the venue or in the most unobtrusive position available. Our footprint is minimal: a small portable table draped in black, a laptop, and a compact equipment case. The cameras themselves are about the size of a shoebox and sit on slim black tripods.

We usually operate with a single technician dressed in plain black attire without logos, blending respectfully into the environment. If a family has specific requests regarding appearance or positioning, we are always happy to accommodate.

How far in advance should we book?

As with most services, the more notice the better to ensure availability and planning.

That said, we understand that funerals and memorials are often arranged quickly. We have successfully provided services with less than 24 hours' notice. Please contact us as soon as possible and we will do everything we can to assist.

I'm worried about the location of our service. What if it's remote?

Memory Stream is based on the north side of Brisbane and services all of South East Queensland. We can also travel interstate if required.

Our standard service radius includes 40km from North Lakes QLD 4509. Modest travel fees apply beyond this range.

If you're unsure about your location, simply contact us and we can advise.

I'm worried about venue internet or power. Is this a problem?

No. All Memory Stream services are fully self-contained.

We bring our own power and internet solutions, so you do not need to rely on venue facilities or worry about technical arrangements on the day.

There is no phone reception at the venue. Is this a problem?

We carry multiple internet solutions to mitigate poor mobile reception. However, livestreaming does rely on available mobile networks, and in extremely remote locations live viewing may be affected.

Importantly, the service recording itself is not impacted. If live viewing is interrupted, we will upload the full recording to the same Memorial Page as soon as we return to the office. This ensures family and friends can still view the service on the same day.

What happens if I can't watch live?

Every service we stream is available to watch afterwards as a Video On Demand (VOD).

We typically stream via YouTube to ensure compatibility across a wide range of devices and to provide smooth playback after the service concludes.

How long does the video remain available?

Your service will remain available at the provided link for as long as YouTube continues to host the video.

For families who would prefer dedicated hosting or alternative long-term storage options outside of YouTube, we can provide this upon request. Please contact us to discuss your preferences.

Are livestreams private?

Yes.

We stream as an "unlisted" video on YouTube. This means the video cannot be searched for or publicly indexed. It can only be accessed by someone who has the direct link.

By default, we list streamed services on our Memorials page to make it easier for families to share and access the link. However, you may request removal from our website at any time. We can also password-protect your Memorial Page if preferred.

What equipment do you use?

Our approach is different from many standard memorial livestreams.

We use broadcast-grade 4K PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) cameras, which allow full remote control without physically touching or adjusting the camera during the service. This enables multiple angles and dynamic coverage while remaining completely discreet.

Our equipment is wireless and battery-operated, allowing us to operate quietly without cables running through the venue. We also use commercial wireless microphones, professional streaming software, and multiple layers of redundancy to maximise reliability.

Do you provide other services?

Yes, we do.

In addition to livestreaming, we can provide portable projector and speaker systems to support the service on site, record remote eulogies from anywhere in the world, create bespoke memorial USB keepsakes, develop dedicated memorial websites, capture drone footage (where appropriate), and more.

If there is something specific you have in mind, please reach out - we will always do our best to accommodate.

Livestream Support FAQ

Where do I find the livestream link?

Visit the Memorials section of our website and locate the person's Memorial Page. The livestream will be accessible directly from that page.

I'm on the Memorial Page. How do I watch?

Click on the main image at the top of the page, or scroll down and select the image labeled "Watch Live Stream" with the play button. The video will begin playing in your browser.

Can I watch on a TV?

Yes.

If you have a Smart TV, the simplest method is to open the stream on your phone or tablet and use Apple AirPlay or Google Cast to mirror it to your television.

Alternatively:

  • Use your TV's built-in web browser to navigate to the Memorial Page, or
  • Connect a laptop or device with HDMI output directly to your TV.
The livestream looks blocky, is lagging, or keeps buffering. What should I do?

First, check that your internet connection (Wi-Fi or mobile data) is stable.

Then:

  • Refresh the page or restart the app
  • Close other apps or devices using heavy internet bandwidth

If issues persist, it may be due to limited mobile coverage at the venue. In that case, please check back later the same day. A full high-quality recording will be uploaded to the same Memorial Page.

Can I share the YouTube link instead of the Memorial Page?

You can. However, we recommend sharing the Memorial Page link.

In some situations we may update the video link - for example, when uploading a higher-quality version or an edited memorial video. Sharing the Memorial Page ensures everyone is always directed to the correct version.

If the YouTube link is working well for you, you are welcome to share it.
